Biological Science Journal
Plant Biochemistry and Molecular Biology by Peter J. Lea, As research in plant metabolism and molecular biology continues to make great progress it has become essential for plant scientists to have an overview of both disciplines, which are becoming increasingly complementary in understanding plant function. Drawing on their own teaching and research experience, the editors and contributors have provided a timely, comprehensive and generously illustrated new edition of this successful introductory textbook. All of the chapters have been updated and revised, and a new chapter on secondary metabolism has been included. Plant Biochemistry and Molecular Biology will be invaluable to undergraduate and postgraduate students in the plant sciences and to all those requiring an introduction to current concepts in molecular plant science. Reviews of the First Edition "The aim of the editors to blend plant biochemistry with molecular biology is successfully reached and provided a new, well written text book which is easy to read." Journal of Plant Physiology "The contributing chapters are well written with clear illustrations and I would expect undergraduates, to whom this book is primarily targeted, to enjoy using it." New Phytologist "The evident teaching experience of the authors make this textbook a useful aid to students and researchers." Photosynthetica What the lecturers said about the First Edition: "A very useful text with a good balance of traditional biochemistry and molecular biology. Its usefulness is enhanced by a very clear and visually pleasing layout and the generally high quality and clarity of the writing." "A surprising amount of information in an easily accessible format." "Good coverage and depth. Im notaware of any other book that deals with this material so well as this one. It addresses a real need in plant science teaching.
Can a Darwinian Be a Christian?: The Relationship Between Science and Religion This book addresses a question at the heart of the current debate about the relationship between science and religion, in particular between that form of evolutionary biology known as Darwinism, and the basic tenets of the Christian faith. That question is: can someone who accepts Darwin's theory of natural selection subscribe at the same time to the essential claims of Christianity? Adopting a balanced perspective on the subject, Michael Ruse offers a serious examination of both Darwinism and Christianity. He covers a wide range of topics, from the Scopes Monkey Trial to claims about the religious significance of extraterrestrials. He deals with major figures in the current science/religion debate (for example Richard Dawkins, Stephen Jay Gould and E.O. Wilson on the science side, as well as Arthur Peacocke, Robert J. Russell and Keith Ward on the religion side). He considers in some detail the claims of the new creationism, and reveals some surprising parallels between Darwinian materialists and traditional thinkers such as St. Augustine. Michael Ruse argues that, although it is at times difficult for a Darwinian to embrace Christian belief, it is by no means inconceivable. At the same time he suggests ways in which a Christian believer should have no difficulty accepting evolution in general, and Darwinism in particular. Writing with verve and avoiding technical jargon, Michael Ruse has produced an important contribution to a sometimes overheated debate for anyone interested in, and perhaps even troubled by these issues, who seeks an informed and judicious guide. Michael Ruse is professor of philosophy and zoology at the University of Guelph in Ontario, Canada. He is the author ofmany books on evolutionary biology. In addition, he has published several hundred articles and many book reviews. He is the editor of the Cambridge Series in the Philosophy of Biology and founding editor of the journal Biology & Philosophy.
Christian Science Journal - The Christian Science Journal is an official monthly publication of the Church of Christ, Scientist through the Christian Science Publishing Society, founded in 1883 by Mary Baker Eddy. Written chiefly for Christian Scientists, as opposed to the Christian Science Sentinel and Christian Science Herald, it includes articles written from a metaphysical angle of Christian Science, with editorials, church news items, testimonies of healing, and listings of Christian Science churches, practitioners, nurses, and Committees on Publication. American Journal of Political Science - The American Journal of Political Science is published by the Midwest Political Science Association. It is one of the most prestigious scholarly journals of political science and publishes articles on all areas of political science. International Journal of Biological Sciences - International Journal of Biological Sciences is an Open Access scientific journal published by Ivyspring International Publisher. It features original articles, reviews, and short research communications in all areas of biological sciences.
